While oral and pharyngeal cancers are more common in the elderly population, they can still strike at any age. This is even more likely to occur if you have a family history of these cancers, or if you use tobacco products, or frequently consume alcohol.

Every dental checkup performed at Jefferson Dental Health PC, includes a screening for early signs of oral and pharyngeal cancer. This includes examining your neck, tongue, cheek, and throat. It’s a good idea to let Dr. Nirmal Aujla know about any increased risk factors for oral cancer you might have.

If you experience any symptoms of oral or pharyngeal cancer between dental checkups, you should not hesitate to schedule an appointment with Dr. Nirmal Aujla or one of his associates.

Early onset symptoms of oral cancer include a persistent pain in your mouth, which might also be associated with swelling or a lump in your cheek or gums. You also should not dismiss a red or white area on your gums, tongue, or tonsils.

It’s also worth noting that symptoms such as a persistent sore throat or a feeling like something is stuck at the back of your throat, could also be an early warning sign of pharyngeal cancer.
